A 25-year-old man stopped growing aged five due to a rare condition and now has to be carried around by his mother.

Ravi Kumar is only 24 inches tall and weighs just 15.4lbs (7kg) and is believed to be one of the smallest adults in India.

Kumar, who comes from Jhansi, in the northern Uttar Pradesh state, is the only member of his family with a growth deficiency.

His family said they had taken him to a doctor as a young child, after he stopped growing physically when he was five years old.

His mother, who now carries him around on her hip, said they learned he was suffering a 'thyroid disease' that stunted his growth.

She said: 'We have taken him to many doctors we were told that he was suffering from thyroid disease.

'Treatment is possible, but we don't have enough money to afford it.'

The shortest man on record was Chandra Bahadur Dangi from Nepal who measured just 21.5 inches.

Dwarfism is a medical condition characterized by significantly shorter stature compared to average height.

It is typically caused by genetic factors, hormonal imbalances, or medical conditions that affect bone growth.

While individuals with dwarfism may face physical challenges, they can lead fulfilling lives with the same range of abilities and aspirations as people of average height.
