MICE FLEE FROM YOUR GARDEN THANKS TO HOMEMADE REPELLENT - CONSISTING OF ONLY TWO INGREDIENTS

While one or two mice in your garden aren't usually an issue - an infestation can cause havoc on your plants and garden.

They can eat your seeds and growing vegetables, destroy plants and also make their way into homes, and as tempting as it may be to reach for harsh chemical deterrents, there is a simple repellent you can make with just two ingredients.

Not to mention the diseases they could carry, especially if they do enter your home, but thanks to gardening experts Sefton Meadows Garden Centre, who have shared some of their top tips on how to keep the pests away - including a homemade spray consisting of essential oils and water.

By making a natural and safe repellent, you can just deter the mice away rather than opting for poisonous bait and mouse traps which aren't ethical or even safe. The experts told The Express: "You can create a mice repellent spray that can easily be applied around your garden, or you can soak cotton wool balls in essential oils and place them around spots that mice are more likely to inhabit.

"We'd recommend using soaked cotton wool balls for the best deterrent, as the scent will be stronger and more likely to keep mice away. However, you can use both for even greater effect." So to make your own, all you need to do is combine two tablespoons of a strong essential oil (peppermint, lavender, tea tree and eucalyptus work well) with 250ml of water.

Shake well and spray where needed in the garden. This can also be used in the home as well.

Another handy trick is to place strong-smelling plants and scents around your garden as mice have powerful senses of smell. Spreading these smells around your garden, especially where there are plants mice be tempted to eat plants. The experts explained that scents such as:

  • Eucalyptus
  • Cedarwood
  • Chilli
  • Cinnamon
  • Peppermint
  • Cloves
