'I REALLY NEED TO START MINDING MYSELF' DAITHí Ó Sé OPENS UP ABOUT CANCER SCARE

It's one of the most terrifying words you can hear and Daithí Ó Se is the first to admit that learning he had cancer gave him the jolt he needed to make changes in his life.

The Today Show host found a lump over his eyebrow in 2023 which he initially thought was an ingrown hair but actually turned out to be cancer.

Daithí was diagnosed with a form of basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer, and says it helped gain perspective on his health and priorities.

'The doctor said that she got it all out, and a bit around it just to be sure. When you get news like that, it does straighten you up.

'I also have to mind my cholesterol and my weight. I always feel the benefits when I go to the gym and it's up to me to push myself a bit more.

It's a lot easier to do it at this time of year,' he told RSVP.

Another telltale nudge to look after himself better is that he isn't getting any younger. Daithí turns 50 in two years and says that saying that number out loud is a stark reminder to make 'simple tweaks' in his life.

That includes making time to socialise with friends, and prioritising time with family where he can switch off,

Daithí recently opened up about his family life after his son turned ten in March.

When asked what kind of father he is, Daithí confessed that he is a bit of a soft touch and hates giving out to Ógie which he thankfully doesn't have to do very often.

'His personality is constantly developing and he's a messer and a rogue. He's got a big heart and he's happy-go-lucky... I'm the softie. I don't like giving out, but I do it when I have to. It's very seldom though.

'I like hanging out with him and being at home with my family. Work is work, but once I come home, that's it,' he told the magazine.
