When the crust or scab formation takes place then the impetigo is non-contagious if no medications have been taken. If medication is taken then usually after 2 days of the drug use the lesions are non-contagious. Before the crust formation, it is highly contagious. It can spread easily with contact via fomites.
Impetigo is contagious spread by skin to skin contact or by use of towel, linen and clothes. So avoid sharing or using other's clothes. Once you start using the antibiotic it will get non infectious after 24 -48 hrs. Early the treatment better the results.
Antibiotic is prescribed either as oral medication, ointment or cream. The infection will be no longer contagious after 48hours from when you start the medicine.
