Globally, the incidence of breast cancer is only second to that of lung cancer and it represents the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women. It is multifocal in one-third of women and has a high risk of becoming invasive. Few tips to lower your risk for breast cancer are, maintain a healthy diet, be physically active, avoid alcohol, limit post-menopausal hormone therapy, breastfeed, preventive surgery if you have a high risk for breast cancer. Hormonal contraception also increases the risk of breast cancer.

You should quit smoking, moderate or avoid alcohol consumption and keep a healthy body weight. These are also factors associated with increased risk for breast cancer. Menopausal hormone therapy it’s also a factor, so you should discuss risk and benefits with your doctor before starting this kind of treatment. If you have significant breast cancer history, there is the possibility to have genetic testing for BRCA1 and BRCA2 variants. Breastfeeding and exercise are related to reduced risk of having breast cancer.
