Prostate cancer is basically an old age cancer of men. If a patient has recent onset of frequency of urination or blood in urine with pain in back or unexplained significant weight loss, he should be cautious about his health as these are signs of rapid growth of prostate cancer. One should also test for prostate specific antigen (PSA) above the normal level for detection of prostate cancer. Ultrasonography (USG) & USG guided biopsy are confirmatory for diagnosis. If metastasis to bone suspected PET scan can be performed.

Prostate cancer is a slow-growing cancer that does not spread beyond the prostate gland. It takes years to become large enough to be detectable, and even longer to metastasize outside the prostate. Prostate cancer may not cause signs or symptoms in its early stages. Symptoms include difficulty with urination, but sometimes there are no symptoms at all.
